We are partnering with the Aurora Women's Huddle, People Power, Planned Parenthood of Illinois, and other community organizations to educate the public on an ordinance that would greatly strengthen protections for documented and undocumented residents of Aurora.
This ordinance goes beyond the protections of the TRUST act, signed by Gov. Bruce Rauner (R) in 2017. The TRUST act does not make Illinois a "sanctuary state," as it is pejoratively called by critics. In fact, it builds on the recommendations of countless law enforcement leaders in the state.
The One Aurora Welcoming City Ordinance expands on the protections of TRUST act while still ensuring that federal law enforcement is able to do their job. More importantly, it enables Aurora officials to continue fostering trust with the immigrant and refugee communities.
